I believe that music is for everyone, encouraging creative expression and promoting accessibility to music for all. Whether you are preparing for a career in music, or want to add more creativity and expression into your life, I will figure out the right lesson plan that works for you! I love teaching students of all ages, and aim to understand your primary motivations so you can have the most rewarding experience with your lessons. I provide a solid foundation to understand music and your chosen instrument, so you feel comfortable exploring and expressing new ideas in your playing. I aim to inspire you to find your musical voice, incorporating improvisation, composition, and more. Music should be enjoyable and fun, and fit seamlessly into your life in whatever way that means to you.
I began studying flute privately at the age of 8 and continued through university. I hold a Bachelor's in Flute Performance from the University of Delaware where I studied with Eileen Grycky, and Master's in Flute Performance from SUNY Purchase and The Manhattan School of Music (MSM), where I studied with Tara Helen O'Connor. In both of my Master's programs, I focused on contemporary and experimental music, and was part of the Contemporary Performance Program at MSM.
Throughout my musical career, I have performed in a number of festivals across the world, as well as produced my own events and organizations. In 2019, I cofounded my own new music ensemble, InfraSound, in NYC and continue to serve as their Executive Director. I also cofounded an educational music festival in Ensenada, B.C. Mexico that ran from 2018-2019, where I taught group classes and performed in the nightly concerts. Other festivals I have attended include Nief Norf, Cortona Sessions for New Music, Fresh Inc Festival, and more.
Stefanie is a Beethoven at Home Teacher
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
