Teaching Philosophy

Music is joy. Even when we are expressing different emotions, the one that our bodies and brains always come back to is joy, and that's central to me as a teacher. I bring a comfortable, creative space for students of any age to experience that; my goal is always to help my student love music as much as I do! I believe in collaboration and communication between teacher and student. Even if something sounds wonderful to me, if you feel that you're not giving your best performance, then it falls to me to help you hone your ability to make it your best performance! The various skills that I have developed over the years need to be applied safely and only when the technique can support it, so I always make sure that we are working towards goals that the student is excited about. My studio is a place of supportive warmth, while remaining full of genuine learning.

Musical Education

Hello! I'm Dylan, and I am a professional voice teacher who specializes in musical theatre. I began in music at the age of 5, when I started taking piano lessons, and began my voice education shortly after. Currently, I work on a number of casting boards for various musical theatre companies around Greater Vancouver. I have trained with many professionals, particularly in the classical and musical theatre genres. My first foray into teaching voice was at the age of 16, when I accidentally started working on a production of the opera Carmen (it's a long story!) and fell in love with helping people with their voice. For the past 8 years, I have been applying the skill and knowledge that I have gained in previous voice lessons to working actors in musical theatre, giving me an incredible understanding of vocal safety and health. I have been given the chance to learn and teach various styles because of this, ranging from classical to jazz to pop, and have truly fallen in love with bringing my knowledge to others.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
