Teaching Philosophy

I believe in structured, detail-oriented training combined with encouragement and clarity. My own studies at the Mount Royal University Conservatory, including the Advanced Performance Program, and my work with distinguished artists such as Brannon Cho, David Ying, Arnold Choi, Thomas Mesa, Brian Manker, Derrett Adkins, and Arnold Choi have shaped a pedagogical approach that emphasizes thoughtful practice, intelligent problem-solving, and long-term technical development rather than short-term fixes. I strive to teach students how to practice, not just what to practice. Every student learns differently, and I adapt my teaching to each individual’s physical setup, temperament, goals, and learning style. Whether a student is pursuing professional training or playing for personal fulfillment, I aim to create a supportive but disciplined environment where progress is measurable, expectations are clear, and musical growth is sustainable. My Universal goal for each student is to have them leaving their lessons inspired and excited to practice.

Musical Education

I am currently a cellist in both the Calgary Youth Orchestra and the Advanced Performance Program at the Mount Royal University Conservatory. My training has focused on high-level classical performance, with an emphasis on solo and chamber repertoire. I study with Beth Root Sandvoss. Through masterclasses, lessons, and intensive programs, I have had the opportunity to work with many internationally acclaimed cellists, including Brannon Cho, David Ying, Arnold Choi, Thomas Mesa, Brian Manker, and Derrett Adkins, among others. These experiences have shaped my technical development, musical interpretation, and professional aspirations. I am pursuing a cello-focused performance career and continue to refine my craft through orchestral performance, solo repertoire, and advanced mentorship within the MRU Conservatory environment.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
