About Oliver
Oliver is a passionate pianist and clarinetist with RCM Level 10 certification. He studied piano privately for 13 years and is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Music program at Acadia University, majoring in clarinet performance. Oliver has performed with the Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble and Jack Long National Honor Band, and brings experience in musical theatre and ensemble collaboration. He teaches with focus on critical thinking, joy, and clear communication, adapting lessons to individual learning needs.

Teaching Philosophy
Music is a source of great passion in my life, and while I believe hard work is very important to make progress efficiently, I also acknowledge that music making is very enjoyable, and that our work as musicians can be both fun and productive. For students of all ages, I aim to push them to think critically and outside the box, while also ensuring our lesson spaces are a source of joy and learning for everyone. I also believe that clear communication is an integral part of teaching, and as such I welcome the opportunity to hear from my students directly about how they feel lessons are going, and what they hope to obtain from our time together. I have no issue adapting lesson plans to cater to specific learning needs and desires, while ensuring that we make the most out of our lesson time in safe and enjoyable way.
Musical Education
I have been studying piano privately from the age of five until the age of eighteen from a local piano teacher. Throughout our lessons, she provided specific and detailed instruction regarding technical ability as well as musical interpretation. I have obtained my level 10 certification through RCM, and have competed in the Nova Scotia Provincial Music Festival. As a clarinetist, I have performed in the National Music Festival's Developing Artist stream, and have been members of the Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble as well as the Jack Long National Honor Band (formerly the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra) for two years each. I have completed two years of study at Acadia University in the Bachelor of Music program majoring in clarinet performance, with my clarinet teacher being a current member of Symphony Nova Scotia.

I have won many regional music festival awards, leading to invitations to represent the region and province in respective provincial and national competitions
Special Skills and Trainings
From elementary school until the end of high school, I was involved in many musical theatre productions, which opened my eyes to a brand new side of music making. This was my first experience being part of a collaborative musical space, and through this experience I was able to learn how to be a part of an ensemble from a young age. In my previous teaching experience, I have often played duets with my students to give them experience making music with others, as I believe it is an essential aspect of being a well-rounded musician and a great way to meet like-minded people with similar interests.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:
Oliver is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
