As I’ve grown musically, my joy in sharing music with the community has also grown. I believe music is an important part of what makes us human and helps us to share things from which words or pictures cannot. To me, it’s as important to begin the journey, such as learning new skills or learning to play for the first time, as it is to continue to become better at music even as we grow older. I believe the pursuit of music is a process that transforms the students of all levels and abilities into better humans and overall a better world!
I started in the school band program, in grade 5, experimenting with several instruments, I was in love with music. It was the summer before grade 8 where I finally settled on saxophone as my instrument and discovered a love for singing. I continued to play and sing in school programs and community opportunities through high school and university. I attended Western Washington University for both my bachelors degree and masters degree in music. For my undergraduate degree (B.Mus), I studied performance with a split emphasis on saxophone and composition. For my master’s program, I graduated with an M.Mus in Conducting, emphasis in choral conducting.
The greatest success is getting to play music everyday!
My training and experience have given me the opportunity to work with a range of students and professionals alike. Two years in a row the Vancouver School District commissioned me to compose music for their all district music day band portion. I’ve performed the Djangofest Northwest jazz festival as saxophonist with my own group Nuages. With this group, I also arranged, composed, performed and produced four albums. I’ve worked several years leading a community jazz choir and vocal jazz ensemble. Plus, I’ve worked several years as a band director. I have been a private teaching for over twenty years. Recently, I taught choir, saxophone, and some voice at Whatcom Community College. The variety of musicians I’ve taught over the years remains a part of my life’s joy. I am a strong with vocal and saxophone technique as well with composition/arranging approaches. My favorite thing to teach is improvisation both vocally and instrumentally.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
