Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy as a music teacher revolves around personal growth, creativity, and enjoyment. I believe each student has a unique musical journey, and my role is to guide them, respecting their individuality and interests. I strive to foster a nurturing environment that encourages self-expression, promotes an understanding of music beyond technical skills, and cultivates a lifelong love for music. Through performance and exploration, students not only develop their musical abilities but also learn valuable life skills. In essence, I view music education as a path towards both personal artistic development and broader human connection.

Musical Education

I have a Bachelor of Arts from Queens University with a minor in music which included guitar lessons and advanced theory classes in which I excelled. In addition, I joined a guitar ensemble at Queens with another classical guitar student where we performed twice at the Isabel Bader concert hall in Kingston. I have been studying both piano and guitar since the age of ten and have made it my goal and passion to have a career in teaching either. On guitar, I have extensively studied a number of genres ranging from prog metal to classical with a focus on improvisation. On piano, I have successfully completed a level 8 performance exam at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Special Skills and Trainings

growing up taking guitar lessons, I had one teacher from grade 8 to grade 12 and we are still friends to this day. His passion for the guitar and the joy and fulfilment he got from teaching me and watching me grow as a guitarist and a musician was incredibly inspiring. I learned from him that music should be taught in a fun and engaging way which I have carried with me in previous lessons with students.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
