Teaching Philosophy

To me, music is both powerful and delicate. It has the strength to evoke deep emotions, tell stories, and bring people together across cultures and generations. Music fosters perseverance and discipline and at the same time brings joy. It remains both deeply personal and universally unifying. My greatest passion is inspiring students to explore and discover this beauty for themselves. I hope to be able to share the joy of music making with everyone. One of the most common misconceptions in the world of music education is the belief that only the wealthy can afford music lessons. As someone deeply involved in the community, it saddens me to hear these perspectives because I firmly believe that music and education should be accessible for everyone. My goal is to break down these barriers and create opportunities for more inclusive musical experiences. I also encourage my students to explore musical styles beyond classical traditions. As the saying goes, “You can’t love what you don’t know.” Firsthand experience is the best teacher, and by embracing diverse musical languages, we can cultivate a deeper appreciation for music in all its forms. Finally, I believe in the importance of open and respectful communication both in and out of the classroom. I strive to foster this same environment in teaching. I encourage students to share their ideas because meaningful learning extends beyond only taking in what the teacher says. Music is, at its core, a shared experience, and by fostering open dialogue, we can all continue to grow, refine our artistry, and inspire one another.

Musical Education

I graduated from University of Western Ontario with a DMA in Piano Performance. I started my piano lesson at the age of 6 and I did my undergraduate studies in Singapore. I came to Canada for my graduate studies and have been here ever since. Other than teaching, I am also a professional collaborative pianist and I perform regularly. I play regularly for musical theatre shows as well.

Special Skills and Trainings

The most recent highlight was being the participant for soundSCAPE 2025 in Blonay, Switzerland. I was also a part of Banff Musician in Residence 2024. In 2023, I was featured in the Young Artist Overture at New Music Concerts (Toronto).

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
