Matthew offers piano, singer-songwriter, and voice lessons to students aged 8 and up in Belleville. With a teaching style that combines classical and jazz approaches, he tailors lessons to each student's interests. Matthew holds an RCM Grade 10 and has extensive experience in both classical and pop vocals. Lessons are available online, at his studio, or in your home. Matthew is fluent in both English and French.
I take a mixed approach to teaching. I have a background in both a classical and "Jazz" approach to music (i.e. manipulating musical structures, arranging, improvising, jamming in bands, composing, by ear, etc.) I am happy to meet the student where they are at passion and interest wise and grow from there. Not everyone is interested in exactly the same thing musically, and we can use whatever setting is motivating to grow your musical skills. I like a progressive approach with an emphasis on the correct experiences to build the skills and understanding to eventually enable the student to independently do whatever musical endeavor they want with their skills. I use a mixture of educational materials, including many which I write/record myself, and popular pieces that the student is personally interested in.
I've been playing piano since age 5 (now 39) and singing in choirs. I have done my grade 10 RCM, have worked with University level piano teachers and courses, studied Jazz piano with University teachers for several years. Much experience performing vocals in a classical and pop setting. I was in many Operas at the National Art Center, and performed in bands at large Music Festivals.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
