Mackenzie is an experienced drumset teacher based in Toronto, offering lessons to students aged 14 and up. He is currently completing his BA in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto, where he has studied under acclaimed musicians. Mackenzie is dedicated to nurturing students' internal sense of rhythm and tailoring lessons to their individual goals, whether that's playing favorite songs or developing improvisational skills. He offers lessons online and in his studio, making his teaching accessible and flexible for a variety of learning preferences.
I believe that music is an intrinsic part of the human experience. It enriches our daily lives and promotes enhanced brain function, both as a passive listener and a creator. My approach to learning is catered towards developing and strengthening the internal sense of rhythm we all possess. Once we have built a strong foundation the direction can be set by the student. Want to learn how to play all your favourite songs? No problem! Want to delve deeper into a specific genre or style? Lets go! Want to develop improvisational skills for higher level playing for fun/jams/university auditions? I'm here to help. For young children the focus is on building a positive association with music and musical instruments, connecting with the rhythm in ourselves (our heartbeat) and setting them on a path to musical fulfillment. Too many times I've seen students scared away from music due to an overly critical or demanding teacher and I aim to provide a welcoming, supportive environment that can be catered to each individual students needs/interests. I love music, drums and teaching and can't wait to share that passion, and hopefully create more of the same, with my students!
I am completing my BA in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto, and have been studying the drums from the age of 7. At UofT I studied with Juno award winning and Order of Canada recipient Terry Clarke.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
