Lucia's extensive background in music, combined with her engaging approach, creates a supportive environment for learners at any stage.
I believe music is a universal language, that is seen in every corner of life, and tends to be inseparable from human expression. I view music as something not only to be listened to, but to be felt, and to be interacted with. My goal as a piano instructor is to open my students minds to all the possibilities of sound and rhythm, allowing them to connect with this art form. I strive to create a meaningful learning environment, prioritizing a safe and welcoming space for all my students. My studio is a place of acceptance and respect where each student is free to express themselves without fear of judgement. I just want my students to feel at home when they are exploring their potential musical interests, and be open to making mistakes because that plays a part of discovering their strengths. I believe that every student is unique and carry their own pace of learning, own strengths, challenges and interests. This results in me tailoring my lessons to suit each individual, recognizing that one size does not fit all. Whether a student decides to pursue music in the future or just exploring it as a hobby, I will still adapt my approach to meet their specific needs, so I can foster both progress and enjoyment. Music has been a profound presence in my life because it has shaped who I am, and guided my aspirations. For this, I am fully commited to sharing this gift and experience with future generations. I hope to inspire them to find the joy, confidence and creativity through music.
I have a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria. My 4 years of study consisted of chamber music, performance classes, jazz history courses, music education courses, and music theory courses. I studied piano at the age of 4, which would make it almost 19 years now! The teachers I have studied under are Angela Yu and Steinway Artist Arthur Rowe. These teachers were the ones to inspire me to pursue music. Arthur Rowe was my teacher in university and we went through lots of training for me to get where I am now. I can't thank him more for pushing me to reach my potential. Angela Yu was my teacher from the age of 4 all the way to University. She taught me all the fundamentals of piano playing and performance.
I have participated in many music festivals and placed first. I have also won multiple bursaries and scholarships from competitions.
So, my mother is actually my piano teacher. Angela Yu, is my mother and she was the one who taught me piano all these years. I would always go to her studio and listen to her teach and I think that is what inspired me to play piano and also follow her path in teaching. In a sense I could say I have lots of insights for many RCM repetoire. I am familiar with the RCM curriculum and the Faber Piano Adventure books. I teach them on a daily basis. I started teaching while I was back in highschool, where my piano teacher would give me students to practice with. That evenutally branched off to private one on one lessons.

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
