Teaching Philosophy

Music is a necessary part of feeding a healthy soul. As people, we all have a sense of rhythm and drive, and we are always uplifted through music. Music education is something everyone should have access to, and formal training should nurture and feed every person's inner musician. I always let lessons and individual students' curriculum be more of a dialogue, but with structure. Anyone can be technically proficient at their instrument, so I begin with exercises/warm-ups to support and build fundamentals. Then initially, I try to understand the student's musical interests, motivations and feed them ways to enjoy music and improve simultaneously. I also believe there is no age too old to begin learning. Everyone should have access to music education and feed their inner musician.

Musical Education

I have a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory, History, and Composition from University of Toronto. I studied piano privately since the age of five, and began composing since the age of sixteen. My teachers were classically trained, and I underwent a similar program to the RCM in the United States called the Certificate of Merit, which held very similar and rigorous standards. My experience after University included being the music librarian and arranger for the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, a musical director, pit keyboardist and/or rehearsal pianist for the Napa Valley College's musical productions, and be a film composer for an award winning film, Avelino.

Special Skills and Trainings

I took piano lessons with a several private teachers before pursuing a music degree. Each teacher had very different approaches, but the focus was always classical music. My first teacher was an at-home coworker of my mother's who initially made playing the piano a hobby. As I got older, my teachers became more serious with different methods and outlooks, but I never felt discouraged bouncing between teachers. I underwent the Certificate of Merit with my second and third private teachers, and I always keep the most valuable lessons of my teachers with me as I teach others.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
