Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is based in the student-centered, adaptive teaching models of leading music educators such as Dr. Merlin Thompson, who I’ve had the privilege of personally studying under. In my instruction I prioritize student engagement, and encourage musical exploration and independent discovery of foundational theoretical and practical concepts. I see all genres of music as equal tools with which to teach the proper technique, and student choice a powerful way to connect the way we listen to music to the way we'll make it ourselves!

Musical Education

On the Piano, my classical training began at age six with a private instructor. I began training on the upright bass and bass guitar at age twelve. I continued to practice classical music in school, regional, and state orchestras until the end of high school, but I simultaneously started to play in local bands and experiment with popular music and jazz. At McGill University, I earned my bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano with a minor in Music Technology, an experience enhanced by my participation in Montreal's vibrant and diverse live music scene.

Special Skills and Trainings

I have toured around Canada, the US, and Europe as a keyboardist with great Canadian acts like Salin, Fernie (secret city records), Samant (Plyground Music), and more. I’m also a member of Growve, the band that hosts Montreal’s most popular jam night on Wednesdays at Turbo Haus, where I also host Monday RnB nights. I specialize in the fusion of Hip-hop and Jazz music- this year will be the 5th that such projects of mine are included in the Montreal Jazz festival!

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
