Teaching Philosophy

I view teaching and teachers as more as guidance for their students because teachers are integral to a student's growth in education and personal identity. Rather than have a teacher completely control what and how their students learn and experience, I believe that teachers should allow their students to take initiative in their learning processes while being readily available to offer any kind of support and direction for their students. Especially in music where music students and musicians are continually learning about their music and instruments, students should feel comfortable exploring their creativity and potential on their instruments while trusting the knowledge and abilities of their teachers. While mistakes may be viewed negatively, I see them as learning opportunities that both the student and teacher can learn from and fix towards a positive and beneficial experience.

Musical Education

I majored in clarinet and have earned degrees from the following schools: - York University (Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music) - University of Western Ontario (Master of Music in Literature and Performance) My principal teachers include Patricia Wait and Dr. Jana Starling. I have also participated in masterclasses by Dr. Wesley Feirrera (Colorado State University) and Dr. Christine Carter (Memorial University). While at York University and Western University, I participated in performance ensembles such as Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra and various chamber groups such as a clarinet quartet and clarinet choir. I have also performed in Toronto-based music ensembles such as the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra and the Ontario Cross-Cultural Music Society Symphony Orchestra and attended the Lift Clarinet Academy in Colorado, USA.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
