Javier, based in Charlottetown, offers composition, piano, and music theory lessons to students from age 5 to adults. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Prince Edward Island, where he majored in Piano. Javier provides lessons online and in his studio, adapting his teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, especially accommodating those with learning challenges.
Teaching in my professional career has always been a desire of mine. I want to help as many people as I can because I know the struggle of wandering alone and without guidance. I strive to be an adaptable teacher. I work hard to personalize students' lesson plans to fit their learning styles and goals. I was diagnosed with ADHD, so I understand how hard it can be to learn in unfavorable conditions. I like to make lessons entertaining, not dreadful. If something is not working, approach it differently or look for another solution. As a teacher, I want to nurture the voice of my students, not mine.
I recently graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Piano under the guidance of Dr. Magdalena von Eccher. I started playing piano in university and worked hard to catch up. I challenged courses in summer terms and practiced a lot to get to where I am today.

I did not study composition at University, but I have been composing music for video games for over four years at a professional level. I have been composing music for almost 10 years now. Furthermore, I had a few lessons with Prof. Glen Montgomery and my current mentor is Dr. Gavin Fraser. Because of my experience as a composer and over 14 years of music making, I have had to learn a lot about music theory and can teach beginners and advanced beginners comfortably.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
