Jacob is an accomplished BAH music teacher based in Toronto, offering lessons in French horn, piano, trombone, and trumpet for students of all ages. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in performance from the University of Toronto and has studied under renowned professionals. Jacob also teaches composition, counterpoint, and music theory at various levels. He provides lessons online, in-studio, and in students' homes, tailoring his approach to suit each individual's musical interests and abilities.
I believe that inside every individual is a longing to create music but too often music education is centered around music students are unable to connect to or don't enjoy. It's my firm belief that early on in a student's development they are taught music that they can easily recognize and will be motivated to practice. My extensive theory and compositional background allow me to create unique opportunities for my students to play arrangements of their favourite tunes tailored to their ability and explore the theory and form behind these musical expressions. High-level performance can only be acheived with a basic and wide ranging theoretical understanding of music - specifically the music you intend to perform.
I received my BMus in performance (french horn) from the University of Toronto in 2024 studying privately with Toronto Symphony members Gabe Radford and Neil Deland. Prior to university I graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy boarding school in Michigan - a prestigious program allowing me to specialize in horn performance and music education. I studied under Corbin Wagner (former member of the Detroit symphony) while I was at Interlochen. I began taking private piano lessons at the age of 4 and continued throughout childhood. I began to take horn lessons when I was 11 and composition lessons at 13. In my youth I was a member of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra. I've performed with various summer festival orchestras including the the World Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Brevard Music Center Festival Orchestra located in North Carolina.
I am a proficient composer and arranger and use these abilities to incorporate students' musical preference into their lessons.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
