Teaching Philosophy
Build your foundation. Enjoy music. Master the language of music! First step I emphasise for students: knowing what you are doing, and establishing the essential techniques in the shortest possible time so that progress is clear and confident! The second step is to understand music. My studies expanded into jazz and popular improvisation with pianist JC and British jazz pianist Aurelius Suika, experiences that taught me to analyze music from daily life, connect listening with theory, and appreciate music in its wider context. I want my students to experience this as well, to understand not just how to play, but how to enjoy and interpret music with depth. The third step is to use music as a language. I believe music goes beyond exams. I help students learn to improvise, express themselves, and perform in different settings, whether in a band, on stage, or simply in sharing music with others. Music becomes a tool for communication, creativity, and confidence. With a Master of Science background, I bring logical thinking and structured learning pathways into teaching. I want students to know not only what to learn, but why it matters and how to apply it. My goal is to create musicians who are technically strong, musically insightful, and uniquely expressive, progressing quickly while developing a personal voice that sets them apart.
Musical Education
I have pursued the following musical education and certifications: - ABRSM Grade 8 Piano (Performance). - Rockschool Grade 8 Piano (Performance). - Currently preparing for the LRSM (ABRSM) and LRSL (Rockschool) diplomas. - Studied classical piano with Professor Yu-liang Tu of Xinghai Conservatory of Music - Studied jazz piano and modern improvisation with pianist JC and British jazz pianist Aurelius Suika I began studying piano at the age of five and have continued for more than twenty-five years. My formal training in classical piano was with Professor Yu-liang Tu at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, whose teaching emphasized technical precision and artistic expression. In parallel, I broadened my studies to jazz and contemporary improvisation under the guidance of pianist JC and British jazz pianist Aurelius Suika, which allowed me to integrate creativity and stylistic versatility into my playing. I currently hold both ABRSM Grade 8 and Rockschool Grade 8 Piano certificates and am actively pursuing the LRSM and LRSL diplomas. In addition to my musical education, I hold a Master of Science degree, which has shaped my approach to teaching with a strong emphasis on logical thinking and structured learning pathways. I guide students not only through the essentials of piano playing and exam preparation, but also towards understanding how to apply music in broader contexts. My goal is to provide an experience that goes beyond examinations and technical foundations, helping students develop unique skills and perspectives that set them apart.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:
Jacky is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
