Hegao is a dedicated cello educator with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Music from The Education University of Hong Kong and over seven years of teaching experience. He holds an ATCL Cello Performance Diploma with Distinction from Trinity College London and Grade 8 Music Theory (ABRSM). Currently a cellist with the North York Concert Orchestra, Hegao creates supportive learning environments where students develop technical foundations, confidence, and a lasting love of music. Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is centred on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can develop musical skills, confidence, creativity, and self-expression through music. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching approach to suit each student’s pace, personality, and goals while encouraging steady growth through positive reinforcement and structured guidance. I hold a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Music from The Education University of Hong Kong and have over seven years of experience teaching cello in both individual and group settings to students of all ages. Alongside my teaching experience, I earned a Distinction in the ATCL Cello Performance Diploma from Trinity College London and have served as principal cellist and section leader in multiple orchestras. I am currently a cellist with the North York Concert Orchestra. Through both teaching and performance, I aim to help students build strong technical foundations, confidence in performance, and a lasting enjoyment of music, whether they are preparing for examinations, performances, or personal enrichment. \
Musical Education
I hold a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Music from The Education University of Hong Kong, where I also completed a minor in Creativity and STEM/STEAM studies. My musical training is centred in cello performance and education, supported by extensive experience in orchestral leadership, chamber music, and private teaching. I earned a Distinction in the ATCL Cello Performance Diploma from Trinity College London and completed Grade 8 Music Theory through Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Alongside over seven years of teaching cello in both individual and ensemble settings, I served as principal cellist and lower strings section leader in multiple orchestras, including the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Orchestra and The Education University of Hong Kong Orchestra. I am currently a cellist with the North York Concert Orchestra, further expanding my local performance experience in Canada. My performance background includes concerts and invited performances across Hong Kong, Mainland China, and overseas, including appearances at the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:
Hegao is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Our Promise to You
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
