I believe the student must look forward to playing their instrument. There is no point to playing the instrument if there is no passion or joy for it. I believe in learning through play. I will ensure that all lessons involve games on the instrument that have the right musical exercises in them. I will make sure that the student’s homework is not just a rigorous and boring sequence of rutting an exercise. I will make sure the lesson is also a pleasant experience. If I ever make a student dread my lessons, then I’ll resign. Enjoyed playing and practicing is the way to betterment. If I have done one of the following things, then I’ll consider my job a success. Made the student better at their instrument. Made them love their instrument more. Inspired them to play more. Given them something to look forward to in their day to day life.
I've been playing the guitar since I was 14. I mainly play rock and heavy metal, but I can also play the classical guitar. I have an Advanced Diploma in Music Performance from Cambrian College in Sudbury. I majored in classical guitar for my 3 years there. Over these 3 years, I minored in piano and cello intermittently and now have RCM levels in both. I was in choir for all 3 of these years as a bass and then a tenor. I was also in chamber choir for a year and a half during this time, wherein I performed as a bass, a baritone, and a tenor singer. Both choirs entailed professional performances, including singing with the Sudbury Youth Orchestra on several occasions. I gained advanced music theory knowledge over my time here, covering themes such as four part writing, fugue, and counterpoint. In my final 2 years of this diploma, I had rigorous pedagogical training from my professors. One of my professors was highly trained in the Suzuki method and he was able to add that knowledge to our curriculum. In my final year, I was given two students in classical guitar.
Kiwanis gold award for an RCM grade 8 piece: Niccolò Paganini's Grand Sonata for Guitar and Violin.
I was taught guitar since I was 14. I went to the Music Performance program at Cambrian College in Sudbury. The peculiar training I was given gave me plenty of knowledge and skills on the guitar. I also learned a whole new style of teaching. I have developed this style over the years and I've found through experience that it is suitable for students of all ages. All of my music related experiences up till now have enriched my knowledge, hence I know I have what it takes to make someone better at their instrument of choice.
