She holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Dalhousie University and an MA in Music Theory from the University of North Texas. With experience in multiple vocal styles and performance, she tailors lessons to each student’s learning style.
Music has been a big part of my life since I was young. I come from a very musical family where we would sing and perform together at different functions. I believe music is a part of the heart of a home and is meant to be shared and enjoyed. I love helping people grow in their passion for music, and I aim to make sure each one of my students pursues their interests in music fully. Each person has a different learning style, and I believe it is our job as teachers to adapt our lessons to maximize the learning process for each individual. Music is a balm to the soul, and it is a joy to share that through my teaching.
I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Dalhousie University and an MA in Music Theory from the University of North Texas. I have taken private lessons for piano from the age of 6 to the age of 18. I have sung since the age of 6 and have taken lessons in many styles, including pop, musical theatre, Celtic music, jazz, and classical. I have been in many theatre/opera productions with roles such as Cossette in Les Miserable and a witch in Henry Purcell's Dido and Aenaes.
Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas
I have had the unique pleasure of working at a previous church where I was involved in the worship team, sound engineering, and set prepping. This opportunity helped equip me for designing sets for gigs and sound setup. I have also had the opportunity to teach aural skills (ear training) at a university, which has allowed me to incorporate the listening and sight-reading aspect of music into my lessons.
Emma is a Beethoven at Home Associate Teacher
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
