I strongly believe in creating confident, self-motivated students who believe that through regular, proper practice success will follow. Learning the foundation of piano is the key to their triumph. Many parents ask me to rush their child ahead; I explain that jumping ahead is like skipping grades in school, “We need to learn our alphabet before we can jump into essay writing”. Further, I have seen the difference in my students when I reinforce every lesson with theory. I believe that theory is the backbone of learning, even at the beginner level. By going over concepts learned in their theory books, students perform better when they sit down at the piano. Learning an instrument is hard work. I present every concept in small pieces so students don’t feel overwhelmed. It helps them grasp exactly what is asked of them. For many new techniques I enjoy showing them what to do and how to move. For my beginners, I place my hand directly on top so they can feel exactly how to walk from one key to the next. Rather than focusing on moving forward and completing numerous pieces, I want them to focus on mastering every technique presented to them no matter how small. To help them progress smoothly, I make every student use their voice out loud as they play. For young students just starting, they are simply saying the note names, and for older students counting out loud keeps the tempo. I find that by having them start with their voice out loud at a young age it benefits by not only associating each note with the corresponding key, but forcing them to be present each and every time they play. Moreover, I have my students prepare for a test conducted near the end of the year. A test gives them a tangible goal to work towards. Every component is carefully addressed months in advanced, allowing me to find areas they need to improve on. Additionally, every student participates in a year end recital. I have witnessed the difference in their confidence once they have performed for an audience. Participating in a recital is a huge accomplishment that every student and parent can be proud of. Finally, each lesson is customized to their own ability and level while still providing challenges to further their skills. It is extremely important to create sustainable relationships with each child. I want them to succeed as much as they can. Many of my lessons end in a fun activity; from techniques like ear training to games like music memory, my students leave my lessons happy and excited to come back.

Name: Elizabeth (Full name will be provided upon registration)

Age: 29

Gender: female

I studied Classical piano since I was five. I grew up in a musical household where both my parents taught myself and my three other siblings how to play. This allowed me to have around the clock time and attention on my studies. They both had us perform yearly examinations, festivals and competitions. I myself have graduated The Royal Conservatory Piano Pedagogy course with First Class Honours. This course trained me in how to effectively teach the Royal Conservatory of Music materials to best prepare my students for successful examinations.

I have been surrounded by music my entire life. My teachers were both of my parents who have decades of experience. My father toured around the world performing in numerous bands. My mother taught her piano lessons within our home 7 days a week. This unique upbringing allowed me to learn the material my mother taught and my father's performance style. I have spend over a decade teaching piano to hundreds of students in both a group and private setting. I encourage my students to participate in recitals, competitions and examinations each year. I am constantly working on improving and adapting my teaching style by taking workshops, classes and meeting with other teachers. My goal is to always provide a great learning experience to my students leaving them happy and motivated.

Rates and Studio Policies
Registration Fee: $25.00 (One-time lifetime registration fee may be used by all family members)

Rates for instruction:
30 minute private lesson: $39.00
45 minute private lesson: $49.00
60 minute private lesson: $59.00

Travel charge: additional $15.00 per visit (for lessons in a client's home as opposed to my studio)

1. Cancellation Policy
Lessons not cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice are billable to the client and payable to the teacher. This does not of course apply to travel fees unless the notice is effectively given at the door and the teacher has travelled to the location.

2. Cessation (quitting) Policy
A client must provide a 2 lesson notice period to stop lessons. So a weekly student needs to give 2 weeks of notice, a biweekly student works out to 3 weeks notice and a twice weekly student works out to a week of notice.

3. Illness Policy
Lessons cancelled due to illness or extraordinary circumstances with less than 24 hours notice remain billable to the client and payable to the teacher.

BAH teachers are encouraged to offer a make-up lesson at a future date in the interest of client relations and general goodwill. This only makes sense as teaching a student with the flu for example, will ruin the rest of your week's employment.

No more than 2 lessons may be made up due to illness within a 60 day period.

4. Rescheduling Policy
Any lesson can be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.

Summer Vacation and Extended Absence Policy

Clients may schedule longer absences for trips etc. 24 hours notice is required.

It is normal and typical for students and about 20% of our teachers to schedule a break in the summer. We do not enforce a notice period (see cessation of lessons) at the end of a long summer break.

5. Evaluation Period
There are no free trial lessons with Beethoven at Home but we do offer a 2 lesson evaluation period where it is easy to try out a teacher. There are no free lessons during the evaluation period and clients may choose to discontinue the lessons at any time by providing the required 24 hours notice. After the student's 3rd lesson the required 2 lesson notice period will apply (see cessation of lessons above).
