Each student is unique and there is no single style of teaching that fits all individuals. My approach to developing a relationship and educational rapport with my students centers on determining the type of learning style that works best with each individual. Together the student and I identify their strengths and weaknesses and create a list of goals for a personalized and systematic plan for musical growth. In regards to supporting creative minds, I believe it is critical that educators stay objective in terms of their musical opinions and tastes. Whether it is fostering a student’s compositional techniques, or supporting a student’s scholarly research activities, it is not up to the educator to push their own musical agenda onto their students. I make sure my personal taste does not interfere with my abilities to cultivate skill, technique, and knowledge in students. Every individual has their own musical voice and interests, and it is the educator’s responsibility to foster and promote growth within their student’s own personal voice. It is our duty to introduce students to music of the past, the different techniques used, and wealth of knowledge one can learn from studying music.
I have a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance and Literature from Western University. I studied voice privately from the age of 7 until the age of 18 and piano from the age of 12. My teachers were classically trained in voice and piano, and the training, examinations and competitions were very rigorous. I trained vocally with a classical soprano in Stratford, Ontario who often performed for the Stratford Festival. The choirs I was involved with include the St. Marys Children's Choir, Calixa Lavale at Ottawa University as well as the Western University female choir. I performed various roles for Western University Opera and travelled to England to perform a role in Yorkshire Opera Workshop's production of Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.
I spent much of my life performing on-stage. Some of my most important life lessons took place on those stages. Whether it was improving when forgetting a word or line, or performing a very well known musical theatre solo, the stage was my greatest teacher. It challenged me to be versatile as a vocalist, an actress and a dancer and to stay present in each moment.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
