Teaching Philosophy

Music has always been a fundamental part of who I am, and I believe it plays an essential role in every person’s education and development. Rhythm and sound already live within us—from the steady beat of the heart to the natural flow of the breath—and learning the cello is an extension of something deeply human that already exists. My goal as a teacher is to help students discover and develop that innate musicality through thoughtful, mindful training. Above all, I believe that joy and play are essential to meaningful learning at any age. I strive to create a supportive, low-stress environment where curiosity and creativity can flourish. Without joy, there is no music—and without music, there is no joy. Because cello playing is both physical and musical, I place a strong emphasis on healthy technique from the very beginning. Lessons include age-appropriate physical warm-ups to support good posture, ease of movement, and injury-free playing. This foundation helps students progress more comfortably and confidently while building skills that will serve them long-term.

Musical Education

I began my cello studies in Florianópolis, Brazil. I attended various music workshops with teachers from Brazil and abroad, including the Curitiba music festival. I was a member of the Camerata Florianópolis orchestra for 16 years, taking part in public performances in theaters and communities in Florianópolis and an international tour of various cities in Italy. I played with the orchestra in operas such as Bizet's Carmen, Mozart's The Magic Flute, Verdi's Rigoletto and La Traviata, Rossini's The Barber of Seville, among others. He has also performed major orchestral works by Beethoven, Mozart, J.S. Bach and Tchaikovsky. I have a large experience In the popular genre, I constantly performs works from MPB, jazz, folk and rock, arranged for orchestra. I had recorded CDs and DVDs, as well as soundtracks for institutional videos, commercials and films. I hold a bachelor's degree in cello performance from Santa Catarina State University - UDESC, under the guidance of Professor Hans Twitchell (USA/Brazil). I had worked as a teacher at the Camerata Florianópolis school back in my hometown and in Calgary at the Suzuki Talent Education Society. In Calgary I worked as cello teacher, conductor, chamber music teacher and early child music educator. I was one of the founders of the Educando com Música (Educating with Music) Project, where I worked for ten years as a teacher and conductor, using the Suzuki method to teach children aged between 7 and 17, which culminated in the formation of the first string orchestra in the rural municipality of São Pedro de Alcantara in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
