Dae is a 27‑year-old drumset instructor (also teaching ear-training, music appreciation, and beginner‑to‑intermediate theory) with a solid educational foundation—currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Music at MacEwan University, after rigorous audition prep including marching band and drum‑line experience. He brings a strong rhythmic ear and improvisational skill, offering lessons in‑studio, at home, or online, using slowed audio loops and student‑favorite tracks to build technique and musicality.
I let the student's passion guide the direction of the lessons. I teach them to play along with songs that they like and are familiar with: This makes it easier for them to use their ears and read notation. This also helps coax students into focusing on a required technique, as a specific goal is more motivating than simply following a set path. Instruments are embodied skills. It is important for a student to be able to use their sense of feel, sight, and sound to train their bodies to move in rhythm. It takes time to build the correct muscles and brain pathways, and I reassure students that they are making progress.
I began learning drums at the age of six, and played regularly until I was 15. Once I decided to go to university, I took an extra year of lessons to make sure I would pass the audition. I did so well that the professor asked if I had ever been in a formal Drum line (or marching band). I am mid-way through a Music degree from MacEwan University, aspiring to become a composer for TV and Film. I have a few years of Piano experience and one year of Choir.
I grew up around music. I'm a second generation drummer, and my mother sang and danced. I have excellent musicality and an ear for rhythm. Timing is extremely important for drums. Using audio software, I can make slowed practice tracks for my students. This way, they have the scaffolding to learn a pattern and how it interacts with the beat of the song. I can also make loops of sections that need the most work. I am also skilled at improvising and filling in for performances at the last minute. I teach students that as long as you can find the beat, you can recover from a mistake without having to re-start.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
