Teaching Philosophy

My teaching style is highly personalized to the goals and needs of each and every student. With so many genres and styles of music involved, the bass is one of the most versatile instruments we have and the possibilities are endless! My ultimate hope is to help my students realize their own personal goals with music and to help them get there. Above all else, I make sure that my students are always having fun!

Musical Education

I studied at the Manhattan School of Music in NYC where I received my Bachelor of Music with Honours in Classical Double Bass Performance. My teacher was Jeremy McCoy, Assistant Principal Bass of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. I began playing bass from the age of twelve, starting with electric and eventually the double bass. I have plenty of experience in all genres and styles and I specialize in Double Bass playing and technique.

Awards and Distinctions

Homer Mensch Award for Outstanding Performance in Double Bass; Manhattan School of Music, 2017 Josephine C. Whitford Award for Enrichment of the Spirit of the School; Manhattan School of Music, 2017 Theodore H. Barth Scholarship Foundation Award; 2016, 2015, 2014 Dean's List; Manhattan School of Music, all semesters Award of Excellence; Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, 2013 Musician of the Year; Cawthra Park Secondary School, 2013

Special Skills and Trainings

I have spent the past two summers (2017, 2016) at the Domaine Forget Strings Academy program where I have studied with internationally renowned double bass bass pedagogue Paul Ellison, as well as Francois Rabbath, David Allen Moore, Scott Dixon, Nicholas Walker and Etienne LaFrance. I have also been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, as well as Principal Bass of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra for two years while I was in highschool.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
