Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy focuses on the enjoyment and fun of music. At the same time, I teach the importance of learning and perfecting details to ensure a deep understanding of musicality. Music is found in many aspects of our lives, from day-to-day life to festivities, nature, history, and other educational materials. Piano lessons are a great way to build a deeper connection with these aspects and to help further develop the mind.

Musical Education

I completed my BA in Communication at Simon Fraser University in December 2024 and my convocation ceremony is expected to be in June 2025. I have studied piano with my private teacher since I was five and am currently working towards my Level 10 harmony and ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance. My teacher was classically trained and focused heavily on attention to musical details. I studied the RCM program with her and also trained for recitals. My teacher got her qualifications in Hong Kong and followed the ABRSM program.

Special Skills and Trainings

Since I was five, I have had consistent piano lessons with my private teacher. My teacher is a dedicated instructor who has over 40 years of experience in the musical field. Over the years, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of musicality, music theory history, and pedagogy. She is my mentor in piano and also in teaching. I have over 20 years of experience with the piano and over 6 years of teaching experience. I teach beginners to all levels of the RCM program and specialize in teaching beginners the fundamental materials of piano.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
