Teaching Philosophy

Music is life to me and is all around us. I enjoy every facet of music from singing, playing, listening, producing, composing and arranging. I nerd out discussing music theory and history. I believe music is an art, a science and is important as part of the education of any person. It enriches one's life and soul and is very therapeutic. Aside from loving music, I enjoy sharing my passion by teaching it to others. I believe that it should be fun and enjoyable but can also be rewarding as one takes pride in their progress. Because I have experience with teaching music to children with special needs, I understand that there are there are many different learning styles.

Musical Education

At the young age of 4, I started playing piano at Music for Young Children (MYC). I continued my learning all the way to Grade 10 Conservatory of Canada. This led me to attend the University of Ottawa Bachelor of Music program for piano performance, under the direction of David Jalbert. I have sang in choir under Laurence Ewashko and am currently singing tenor with the Halifax Camerata Choir. I received my Bachelor of Music with honours and Summa Cum Laude.

Awards and Distinctions

Calixa Lavallee Scholarship for Choir at the University of Ottawa, and Jean-Marie Beaudet Scholarship for Composition also at the University of Ottawa. Received award for original music score at the Sears Drama festival in Ottawa.

Special Skills and Trainings

I started with Music for Young Children at the age of 4 and continued my practical and theory exams with Conservatory Canada before attending University of Ottawa for my Bachelor of Music. In the last 8 years, I have worked at music camps for children with special needs and I have taught many students of all ages in my private studio and other studios in Ottawa and Halifax.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
