About Ariana
Ariana is a horn teacher with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music and an Artist's Diploma in Orchestral Horn Performance from the Glenn Gould School of Music. With nearly 20 years of playing experience and study under principal and associate principal horn players, she brings depth to her teaching. Ariana creates a joyful learning environment focused on healthy practice habits and solid technique, whether students are beginners or preparing for auditions. Teaching Philosophy
I believe that no matter the skill level of a student, how old they are, how long they have been playing, how much they are able to practice, and what their musical goals are, the most important thing is to foster an environment where music is a source of joy rather than stress. In my years as a student and as a freelancer I have seen many classmates and colleagues (and occasionally myself) crack under the pressure of a very competitive field, and my goal as a teacher is to equip students with the tools needed to be able to learn and practice in healthy ways that prevent the kind of strife that can occur pursuing excellence in performance. A teacher of mine once told me; "The worst thing that happens if we have a bad day at work is we bore an audience and disappoint ourselves. The worst thing that happens if a surgeon has a bad day at work is the patient dies.", and this is a comparison I keep at the centre of my teaching and my personal practice and performing. The horn is a very finicky instrument and students can often get very frustrated with it, whether they are just beginning and struggling to play more than two or three different pitches, or if they have been playing for years and can't quite get a passage from their recital repertoire under their fingers. I have been playing for nearly 20 years and understand these struggles better than the back of my hand. I can guide a student away from unproductive self-sabotage and to good technique and mental preparation. Whether a student is preparing for an audition or needs a basic technique fix I can use my experience to help them in their musical journey, wherever it leads them.
Musical Education
I have a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music where I studied under Christopher Congos (Associate Principal Horn of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra). I have an Artists Diploma in Orchestral Horn Performance from the Glenn Gould School of Music where I studied under Gabriel Radford (3rd Horn of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra). I began working towards a Master's Degree at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University where I studied with Nadia Côté (4th Horn of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal).
Special Skills and Trainings
I have been a participant in a variety of festivals, including Domaine Forget and the Orford Academy where I was given the opportunity to perform in Busan South Korea as a member of the Orford Arts Centre Orchestra. I have a great deal of experience playing in a variety of community orchestras in the Greater Toronto Area and in Montreal where I have had the pleasure of performing alongside community musicians between the ages of 20 and 80, giving me an appreciation of how performing orchestral music can be a meaningful part of someones life regardless of whether or not you have made a career of it.

Associate Teacher Lesson Rates:

- 30 minutes: $39
- 45 minutes: $49
- 60 minutes: $59
Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Our Promise to You
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
