Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is rooted in building strong musical foundations while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and personal expression. Having studied multiple instruments and musical traditions, I understand that every student learns differently and benefits from an approach tailored to their individual needs. Lessons are structured and goal-oriented, focusing on healthy technique, rhythm, listening skills, and musical understanding. I emphasize developing a strong sense of time and musical discipline, while also making sure students enjoy the process and feel supported as they progress. With experience in jazz, ensemble performance, and diverse musical styles, I encourage students to listen actively, play musically with others, and develop versatility. Whether working with beginners or more advanced students, my aim is to help each student build confidence, musical independence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Musical Education

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance from McGill University, specializing in upright (double) bass. My musical education began at a young age with Flamenco guitar, where I developed a strong sense of rhythm, discipline, and musical expression. I later studied electric bass before fully focusing on double bass. Throughout my training, I have studied with highly respected musicians from Montreal, Toronto, and New York, gaining a well-rounded and professional musical foundation. I was also an active member of McGill University’s Jazz Choir, which strengthened my ensemble skills, listening, and musical collaboration. In addition to my formal university training, I have experience with Middle Eastern music, giving me a broader musical perspective and an appreciation for diverse musical traditions. My teaching approach is structured, supportive, and adapted to each student’s age, level, and goals.

Special Skills and Trainings

Performed at major venues including the Mont-Tremblant Jazz Festival, Oscar Peterson Concert Hall, and Upstairs Jazz Bar. Experienced in ensemble performance as both a band member and bandleader. Trained with leading jazz musicians in Montreal, with additional experience in vocal training. Actively involved in organizing and producing live performances for the Iranian community.

Our Promise to You

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.

Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.

When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.

Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:

Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice

Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
