As musicians, we are life-long learners. We always have more to learn and discover, and it continually fuels my passion for this art form! I enjoy working with students to find what excites them about singing, and guide them in pursuing their musical interests. I believe that singing at any age is meant to spark joy and passion, therefore the most important part of my lessons is helping students to develop and/or maintain a relationship with music that is joyful. I create a studio space that is inclusive, accessible, and fun for all ages. I operate and teach on the belief that singers are storytellers, athletes and language specialists all in one. We must understand the way the brain and body work together to create sound, which we do through movement that teaches our bodies to support our singing. Whether we are singing in our native language(s) or a language we can't speak at all, storytelling is our most important job as singers. This is a unique challenge and a gift that we get to dive into. Our work is intricate and complex, but ultimately incredibly rewarding.
I hold a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in Voice Performance from the University of British Columbia. I was honoured to sing in the studio of Krisztina Szabo in my time at UBC, who excels as a teacher because of her incredible attention to detail, high standard of excellence, and compassionate approach to working with singers. I have also trained vocally in great choirs, including the Vancouver Youth Choir, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, musica intima, the UBC University Singers, and the British Columbia Youth Choir.
My parents immigrated to Canada two years before I was born. I grew up in a bilingual household, speaking both English and Afrikaans, while attending school in French. I took Italian, German, and Spanish language courses in University. I also frequently sing in a very wide array of languages that I do not speak, including Swedish, Estonian, Hungarian, Russian, Neapolitan, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Old English, Latin, etc. I take extra care to make sure my pronunciation in all these languages is as accurate as possible, and I am always eager to learn new languages. I think it is very important for students of any age to be singing in multiple languages, because there is so much beautiful music and so many interesting stories for us to discover! Alongside teaching private lessons, I am a choir teacher at various elementary schools in Vancouver. I am used to dealing with the varying needs of many children, and I love getting to know all the unique qualities of each child that I teach!

Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
