Above all, I want to encourage my students to enjoy music and the process of learning and exploring music at their own pace. I am very positive, and am used to working with musicians of all ages and learning styles, and emphasize a relaxed approach, influenced by the principles of the Alexander Technique.
I have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance from Mount Allison University (1990). I have taught flute privately for over 40 years, since my undergrad years, and have taught all levels of public school music from grades Primary to 12 for about 30 years, and currently teach High School Band in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I love to play in a wide variety of styles-classical, jazz, funk, Celtic, World Music, etc. I currently play flute and piccolo with the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra, The 36 Canadian Brigade Group Military Reserve Band, Tuesday Night Big Band, Glasswinds Female Wind Ensemble, and have played and sung with many other groups on PEI, NB and NS.
My parents are both professional musicians and music teachers, and continue to enjoy teaching and playing in their 80s. For me, music is a way of life, a way to meaningfully connect with others, from all ages, backgrounds and to collaborate to create something powerful and positive. In addition to my teaching career, I've co-produced a number of shows that incorporate music as a way to communicate and incorporate larger themes. These include the Ebb and Flow-Tides of Settlement on PEI, which ran for 5 seasons from 2018-2023, as well as several outdoor Shakespeare productions on PEI, for which I was the Music Director. I look forward to sharing my love of music and communicating through it throughout my entire life.

Home visit fee: $15 minimum fee. Teachers may negotiate a higher travel fee if the travel distance is longer than they are comfortable with. Most arrangements use the minimum fee.
One-Time Family Registration: $25. This covers your entire family for life - once you're in, everyone can take lessons!
Getting Started Together
We don't offer free trials, but we do something better - a relaxed 2-lesson getting-to-know-you period. You can pause anytime with just 24 hours notice. After your third lesson, we ask for a friendly 2-lesson heads up if you need to stop.
Life Happens - We Get It
Give us 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule and you'll receive full credit. Planning a family vacation or summer break? Perfect - just let us know a day ahead and we'll pause your lessons.
When You're Under the Weather
If illness strikes with short notice (less than 24 hours), you'll still be charged since your teacher has reserved that time. However, most teachers are happy to offer makeup lessons when possible - they have the final say, especially if last-minute cancellations become a pattern.
Stopping Lessons
Need to take a break? We just ask for a 2-lesson notice:
Weekly lessons = 2 weeks notice
Every other week = 3 weeks notice
Twice weekly = 1 week notice
Summer breaks are different - no notice period needed when you return in the fall!
