Overview and History of the Violin
"The violin is a string instrument with four strings usually tuned in perfect fifths. It is the smallest and highest-pitched member of the violin family of string instruments, which also includes the viola and the cello. Second only to the piano the violin has one of the greatest repertoires in all of classical music. Mozart and Beethoven wrote some of their greatest works for the violin. The concerto by Beethoven is considered the epitome of the classical violin concerto. Violinists and collectors particularly prize the instruments made by the Gasparo da Salò, Giovanni Paolo Maggini, Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati families from the 16th to the 18th century in Brescia and Cremona and by Jacob Stainer in Austria. A person who makes or repairs violins is called a luthier, or simply a violin maker. The parts of a violin are usually made from different types of wood (although electric violins may not be made of wood at all, since their sound may not be dependent on specific acoustic characteristics of the instrument's construction), and it is generally strung with gut, nylon/steel composite, or steel strings. Someone who plays the violin is called a violinist or a fiddler. The violinist produces sound by drawing a bow across one or more strings (which may be stopped by the fingers of the other hand to produce a full range of pitches), by plucking the strings (with either hand), or by a variety of other techniques. The violin is played by musicians in a wide variety of musical genres, including Baroque music, classical, jazz, folk music, pop-punk and rock and roll. The violin has come to be played in many non-western music cultures all over the world. Knowledge of the violin is a good starting point for learning to play the larger instruments of the string family later in life. " Click Here to Learn Even More About The Violin

When to Begin Violin Lessons
Violin lessons can begin very early and are an excellent foundation for the study of other instruments in future. Some students have begun their studies as early as the age of 4. Whether or not this is possible is dependant on the child’s capacity to pay attention at this very early age and all children are different (ages 7 to 8 are more typical). No matter the age, whether young or old, the Violin is a great instrument to begin or continue one’s music education. Procuring an Instrument for Your Violin Lessons
Most people begin by renting an instrument. This is really practical because as children grow they move through different sizes of the violin from 3/16 size to full size. Because children grow so rapidly purchasing an instrument that is other than full size can be less of a good investment unless you have multiple children and another child will use the various sizes as time moves on. If you are ready to begin on a full size instrument then you might wish to consider purchasing a violin. A good student instrument starts out in the range of $500.00-700.00. The most famous violins that are hundreds of years old by makers like Stradivarius can fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction.
