Overview and History of the Flute

The flute is the oldest of the woodwinds dating back 800 years in Western Europe and North America. It is also unique because it is the only non-reed woodwind instrument. By the 17th and 18th centuries, the flute became a standard classical instrument through such composers as Vivaldi, Mozart, Brahms, and other famous composers of that era. The flute came into its modern appearance by the 1900s and has continued to be a part of the modern classical repertoire. As well as being a mainstream classical instrument, the flute has found its place in modern western music styles such as jazz, rock, pop and blues. Click Here to Learn Even More About The Flute

When to Begin Flute Lessons

Flute lessons can begin very early and are an excellent foundation for the study of other instruments in future. Some students have begun their studies as early as the age of six. Whether or not this is possible is dependant on the child’s capacity to pay attention at this very early age and all children are different (ages 9-12 are more typical). No matter the age, whether young or old, the «Instrument» is a great instrument to begin or continue one’s music education. Beethoven at Home will help you choose the right personality of flute teacher for yourself or your child. Our local consultant will contact you and discuss your child’s personality and try to come up with a match that suits your requirements. Click Here to Get Your Flute Lessons Started Right Now

Procuring an Instrument for Your Flute Lessons

Initially most players begin by renting a flute. This makes a fair amount of sense as often times children in school music programs will switch to a different instrument in the first few years or graduate to the need for an intermediate instrument as they progress on the flute. Either way renting an instrument at the outset makes good financial sense. A good student instrument can be purchased for as little as $350.00 and rental rates are very affordable. Your local Beethoven at Home consultant can assist you in setting up a rental or finding a good place to purchase an instrument.

Testimonials

“As an adult I was uncomfortable with the idea of sitting in a music school waiting room with full of children. I couldn’t believe it when you told me the teacher would come to my office! I am really enjoying learning the cello.”
